Navajo facilitates a number of projects, which are managed in joint partnership with public sector and voluntary organisations to address HIV/STI's and other LGBT social issues. Projects currently running are:
The Public Sex Environment Outreach Project employs four part time workers who deliver condoms, lube and safer sex messages to men who have sex with other men in public environments within the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre PCT areas, subject to funding.
The Sex and Men Project employs four part time workers who distribute condoms, lube and safe sex messages to LGBT people at two of the largest gay bar\nightclub venues in Blackpool.
The Sex Workers Outreach Project is a newly created post following an assessment of the needs of sex workers in Blackpool. A part time coordinator provides outreach services that include provision of condoms, advice and information on sexual health screening and a point of contact of any issues around general safety and well-being.
The One Stop Shop is an information and signposting facility based inside the Flamingo's Nightclub in Blackpool. Staffed by volunteers the shop offers information and advice to LGBT people on a broad range of social, holistic and sexual health services.
All the above projects are facilitated by Drugline Lancashire.
Tackling Hate Crime - the police lead this initiative to increase the number of homophobic hate crimes and incidents reported.
North Lancashire PCT currently supports Sex and Relationships (SRE) and Personal, Health and Social Education (PHSE) in schools by providing training to SRE and PHSE teachers and school nurses with sexuality basic awareness training through their accredited courses.
Sexual Health at Kirkham Prison: the former Fylde PCT worked very closely over a two year period with Kirkham prison management to improve the sexual health of inmates. Work included the provision of condoms and lube for all prisoners for use in the prison or whilst out on home or town leave; speedy referral to GUM clinic when appropriate through prison healthcare; Chlamydia screening of all prisoners under 25; appropriate clinical and personal support for anyone living with a blood-borne virus including HIV; sexuality awareness training for all prison staff as part of the sexual health and equality & diversity agendas; peer education programme for prisoners addressing sexual health and drugs misuse. Many prisoners though not identifying perhaps as gay or bisexual may be having sex with each other during their stay in prison. The prison recognises this and strives to ensure that it does not make assumptions about prisoners' sexual orientation.
The former Wyre PCT was working with Wyre Housing Association on a three-year project to tackle homophobic and racist crime in the Borough of Wyre.
